Thunder in the Glens 2024: A Roaring Success!

Rally Co-ordinator Shirley Gunn looks back on this year’s event and is keen to hear your thoughts

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Thunder in the Glens 2024! We hope you had an unforgettable weekend, just as we did. The positive feedback from rally-goers, crew, and sponsors has been overwhelming, and it’s all thanks to your amazing support.

We like to say that we are the largest chapter-run rally in the UK, and it’s true. Our rally is entirely not-for-profit, organised by more than 100 dedicated Dunedin Chapter members who collectively volunteer more than 2,000 hours across the weekend. From setting up fencing and gazebos to designing, selling merchandise, organising entertainment, and managing rally packs, our volunteers handle it all – including placing over 2,000 wristbands! Many of these members work year-round, and some have already started planning for Thunder in the Glens 2025.

This year, we proudly raised £1,300 for our chosen charities, Blood Bikes and Aviemore Community Transport. Thank you for helping us make a difference.

Our rally wouldn’t be possible without the support of so many businesses and suppliers. We hosted 55 traders on-site, collaborated with local businesses, and were backed by our sponsoring dealership, Edinburgh Harley-Davidson^®. A huge shoutout to Roadskin, our main sponsor, and Spey Valley Distillery for sponsoring the bike show.

The mass ride-out on Saturday was, once again, a highlight of the weekend, with north of 1,000 bikes roaring out of Aviemore and cruising through the stunning route to Grantown-on-Spey via Lochindorb. Make sure you check out the videos from the fab community of YouTubers who captured the ride-out!

There was plenty to keep everyone entertained: scenic ride-outs on both Saturday and Sunday, demo rides with the latest Harley-Davidson models, a custom bike show and a packed schedule of live bands, comedy and films. Plus, we had an outdoor stage for daytime entertainment. The Ladies of Harley® kept the energy high with their lively line dancing event, complete with prosecco and strawberries.

We are now looking forward to 2025 and hoping that you can help us make it even better by telling us how you found this year’s event.
